Purple, the intelligent spaces company, is delighted to have won the award for Business of the Year with 50 plus employees at the Greater Manchester Business Awards 2017.

Organised by innov8 Conference Services, the inaugural event, which took place last Friday evening, recognised standout organisations from across the Greater Manchester region, with the final and most prestigious award of the evening presented to Purple.

Purple’s Chief Financial Officer, Pete Lee and Chief Product Officer, John Oliver, collected the award at Friday’s black-tie ceremony, held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Manchester city centre.

To win the category entrants had to evidence innovation, profitability, competitive advantage and a forward-thinking attitude, with Purple winning the award despite fierce competition from other shortlisted companies, including Shield Safety Group, Peninsula and Exchange Utility.

This is the second time this year that Purple has been recognised for its accomplishments having been named as the second fastest growing software company at the Northern Tech Awards.

Purple has been based in Greater Manchester, recognised as a major player in the UK’s booming tech sector, since it was first established by local entrepreneur, Gavin Wheeldon, back in 2012. Originally headquartered in Ashton-under-Lyne, Purple moved to a brand-new HQ in Oldham at the beginning of 2017 due to growing staff numbers. Additional offices have also been opened in the UK, US, Spain, Australia, Singapore and Chile to accommodate the team, which now totals over 100 employees.

Now recognised as the market leader for WiFi analytics, Purple’s solution is allowing businesses around the globe to monitor their physical spaces and actively promote their brand, while providing valuable insights into customer behavior within venues.

With over 20 million users across 125 countries, Purple works with a range of brands and venues, including Legoland, Jaguar, United Wireless Arena, City of York, TUI, Centurylink, Outback Steakhouse, Pizza Express, British Land, Merlin Entertainments Group and the Indiana Pacers.

Commenting on winning Business of the Year at the Greater Manchester Business Awards, Gavin Wheeldon, CEO of Purple, said: “Purple has been located in Greater Manchester since day one so it’s a privilege to receive an award that acknowledges exceptional companies in the region. I’d like to thank the judges for recognising what Purple has achieved over the last twelve months, we’ve dramatically expanded our customer and partner base, profits, office locations and staff numbers, so it’s a great achievement for the whole team at Purple to receive recognition.”
