GDPR is a regulation that harmonises data privacy laws across Europe and has been hailed as the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years. The legislation, which comes into force on 25th May 2018, will protect and empower all EU citizens in terms of access to personal data and reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. If a company breaches the consumers’ rights then they will be fined up to 4% of revenue, or 20 million Euros, whichever is greatest.
Our new Profile Portal places control of personal data firmly back with the end user. It gives individuals full access to their data and the ability to adjust their marketing preferences through a secure and easy to use dashboard. The portal aggregates all of the information collected on the user and is split into 3 main areas:
My Personal Information
This area allows the user to view all of the personal information that has been collected about them, which can include their first name, surname, email, date of birth and gender.
Users can access a breakdown of their activities, including the venues they’ve visited, marketing communications received, surveys completed, devices used to login to the WiFi and the method used to connect to the network.
My communication settings
We’ve given users the ability to view their marketing preferences and choose which companies are permitted to send them future marketing communications.
Through giving end users access to the Profile Portal, individuals will be more likely to agree to the WiFi terms and conditions, safe in the knowledge that their data is being handled appropriately and they can control its use. It also means that end users will no longer have to request their data as it will be openly available to them around the clock.
How has the access journey changed?
To ensure end users are fully aware of what they are agreeing to when accessing WiFi we’ve improved the access journey. Now, when a customer ticks the consent box on the WiFi splash page, they will be presented with a further screen that provides a “Terms Overview”. This screen provides two tabs which then break down information on the data that is collected (Your data) and how the data is used for marketing purposes (Marketing).
