GDPR Compliant

Full transparency with our Profile Portal and privacy policy
Social WiFi login
In reaction to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will come into force next year, we have unveiled our brand new Profile Portal and revised privacy policy to give end users complete transparency into the data collected about them. The Profile Portal provides end users with ongoing access to all of the information collected about them and our Privacy Policy has been dramatically shortened to ensure they are simple and unambiguous. These developments have cemented our position as the first GDPR compliant WiFi provider, eased the pressures of GDPR for our European customers and made end users feel reassured that their data is in safe hands. The Profile Portal and privacy policy will not only benefit European partners, customers and WiFi users, but will prove beneficial worldwide as pressure mounts for businesses to manage data responsibly.

What is GDPR?

GDPR is a regulation that harmonises data privacy laws across Europe and has been hailed as the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years. The legislation, which comes into force on 25th May 2018, will protect and empower all EU citizens in terms of access to personal data and reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. If a company breaches the consumers’ rights then they will be fined up to 4% of revenue, or 20 million Euros, whichever is greatest.

Profile Portal
Our new Profile Portal places control of personal data firmly back with the end user. It gives individuals full access to their data and the ability to adjust their marketing preferences through a secure and easy to use dashboard. The portal aggregates all of the information collected on the user and is split into 3 main areas:

My Personal Information
This area allows the user to view all of the personal information that has been collected about them, which can include their first name, surname, email, date of birth and gender.

My Activity
Users can access a breakdown of their activities, including the venues they’ve visited, marketing communications received, surveys completed, devices used to login to the WiFi and the method used to connect to the network.

My communication settings
We’ve given users the ability to view their marketing preferences and choose which companies are permitted to send them future marketing communications.
Through giving end users access to the Profile Portal, individuals will be more likely to agree to the WiFi terms and conditions, safe in the knowledge that their data is being handled appropriately and they can control its use. It also means that end users will no longer have to request their data as it will be openly available to them around the clock.

Privacy Policy & Access Journey

One of GDPR’s headline rulings is the introduction of ‘unambiguous consent’ before users’ personal or behavioural data can be used for marketing purposes. As a result, we’ve revised our privacy policy so that people understand every aspect of what they are agreeing to when they access WiFi at a Purple supported venue.
Our privacy policy has been shortened from 1600 words to 260 words, and we’ve made it very easy to understand. We’ve used the type of language that people use in their everyday life. Our hope is that when a user is presented with the policy it is clear enough for them to be confident in the knowledge of what data we collect, why we collect it and what we do with the data.

How has the access journey changed?
To ensure end users are fully aware of what they are agreeing to when accessing WiFi we’ve improved the access journey. Now, when a customer ticks the consent box on the WiFi splash page, they will be presented with a further screen that provides a “Terms Overview”. This screen provides two tabs which then break down information on the data that is collected (Your data) and how the data is used for marketing purposes (Marketing). Complete clarity from start to finish.
