Purple IoT Hackathon – the results are in

Young coders set to conquer Purple challenge in local hackathon
Posted on | Updated on

Our dedicated tech team gave up their weekend to come into the Manchester headquarters to take part in the inaugural Purple Hackathon. The night owls worked 24 hours straight to explore how we can harness the Internet of Things to help our customers better understand and interact with their physical spaces.

Two teams, captained by Raymond Jones and Ian Jones, competed to see who could take all the sensors we’d placed in the office to build the best product by the end of the weekend.

You can watch 24 hours of hackathon compressed into eight minutes of frantic coding, pizza eating, nerf fighting and eventual collapse into physical exhaustion here:

Everyone involved worked incredibly hard on little or no sleep, and the judges were blown away by what both teams had achieved in so little time.

Ray’s team won the competition by the slimmest of margins, but we awarded £100 Amazon vouchers to everyone who took part in the hackathon. We’d like to think Purple (and our partners and customers) will be the real winner when we get all of the ideas into production, so watch this space.

Last but not least, if you’re reading this with a new career opportunity in mind, we have a number of vacancies available in development, technology and sales.
